Your music video «F*ck the gender criticals» has made the selection for this years short film festival in Grimstad. How does it feel to be about to showcase the video to a wide audience?

Actually, I was surprised, because I had never really considered that it would be selected. I wanted to make something overtly queer, and the song was perfect for that - very political and in your face. It feels quite special that the video will be shown at the festival in Grimstad, that it will be seen by a wider audience and not just the niche audience it was created for.

Can you tell us a bit about the video?

«F*ck the gender criticals» by Cvntess is a protest song in response to gender-critical feminism and the resurgence of transphobic personalities who propagate their hateful views and violence against trans women. The video is performative and creates space to stand against transphobia.

How did you start making film?

I have always loved films and wanted to make my own. When I was younger, I made video sketches and skate videos, that sort of thing. At university, I also helped on some student films, and for a short time I worked in television news and theatre. Then life happened. When I turned 40, I decided that it was now or never, so I applied to Oslo Fotokunstskole (Oslo Photo Art School).

You are currently a student at Oslo Fotokunstskole's part time study program for Film- and video art. Can you tell us a bit about your experiences your time at Oslo Fotokunstskole?

I wanted to take the full-time program, but the part-time program was a better alternative for me, because I had to combine studies with a day job. The course of study is a good foundation, with project-based learning. It’s kind of what you make of it. I have definitely developed in many ways, but after every project I realize how much more there is that I want to learn. Next year I plan to take the full-time program, so I can work on new projects in a structured and collaborative environment, with the resources that the school has to offer.
